OUTLIER Ultrafine Merino T / outlier.cc

Hey Everyone,

We used to think we wanted perfection, but what we really want is the transcendent. We want to make clothing that transcends the bullshit of the market. Clothing that transcends the disposability of fast fashion and the exclusivity of luxury. Transcends the unnecessary divisions between functional and social, between urban and outdoor, nature and technology, work and play.

The harsh reality is that we are still rank amateurs at this game. We started Outlier five years ago with no experience making clothing, just had a deep intuition that things could be done better. Over the years we've made a lot of mistakes, learned a few lessons and developed a couple of techniques to help us toward our goals.

The first is a love of simplicity, a desire to reach the roots and uncover the most basic solutions possible. The second is a perverse materialism, a reverence for the raw materials we use. The garments we make are just us taking the best materials we can find and attempting to express their properties in the simplest form possible.

We're still a long way from home on this journey but if we have anything to show for it, it's the Ultrafine Merino T-Shirt (and V-Neck). A simple t-shirt made from 17.5 micron merino, nature's finest performance fabric.
We made this t-shirt because we love merino and wanted to represent it properly. We use 17.5 micron yarns, rather than the 18.9 most brands do, because the finer yarns are softer and just plain beautiful to touch. We use 200gsm fabric rather than the 150-160gsm most companies do because it drapes far better, has a wonderful hand feel and is a bit more durable. And more merino means more of merino's core wicking capabilities that cool you in the heat and keep you insulated in the cool.

Merino takes color wonderfully, and its natural UV resistance means it almost never fades. This time around we made it in seven colors (six for the V-Necks). Bravest Blue, Pop Blue, Dust Olive, Pop Green, Black, Deep Gray and Medium Gray. You can get all seven for $567, three for $270 or one for $98.

All the best,

Abe, Tyler and the Outlier crew
