Ever experience this?
โI am a female in my early 30s. My work requires me to frequently communicate face-to-face with customers that are often strangers to me. Because of this I tend to take good care of my appearance.
When I'm in a conversation with a customer I pay attention to looking them in the eyes to show I'm paying attention to the conversation we are having. But lately something else has caught my attention.
When I'm the one talking I notice that the person I'm talking to switches between eye contact and looking at my mouth around every few seconds.ย
While I'm not particularly an insecure person, this can make me pretty unsure of whether (for example) I have something between my teeth, my teeth look yellow or I'm distracting the person with the way I talk. While it doesn't particularly seems like it's distracting them, it does distract me from the topic of the conversation and I am wondering what they are thinking.ย It makes me self conscious of my teeth.โ -Anonymous

โIโve encountered this quite a few times, from both men and women.ย Every time I talk, they look directly at my mouth/lips and nothing else. Does this mean my lips look weird, or teeth? Or that they find them appealing? It's very uncomfortable.โ-Anonymous
In fact, it is suggested by experts to focus on the mouth, as if reading their lips. This is a grounding technique to stay engaged in the conversation.
With so much focus on the mouth, donโt you think itโs important to make sure you are confident about your teeth?ย White teeth gives you the confidence to focus on talking and connecting instead of wondering โwhat do they think of my teeth?โ
