We are writing to let you know we are working on a new product exclusively for Content Partners like yourself, a product that we hope will both eliminate headaches and increase your "per license" revenues.

As you probably know, performance royalties from streams, spins, and views are now almost exclusively paid directly to the publishers and songwriters or their performing rights organizations by the distribution platforms, who have collected the performance royalties from the streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and all the other worldwide streaming platforms.

So what happens with the mechanical royalties from sales and downloads owed you by the artist rendition of your song? 

Well the artists that release their rendition of your song have a responsibility to pay a percentage of the mechanical royalties they collect to the copyright owners of the song. 

However, it can be hard and incredibly time consuming to track down the mechanical royalties from so many indie artist who release their versions of your songs.

To help generate more upfront revenue for our content partners, Rocket Songs began testing a new Royalty Free License option with a select number of content partners. And we're happy to say it's been a success. 

Now I’m sure your first question is what do we mean the Royalty Free? Simply put, this product allows the artist that’s licensing your song to select the Royalty Free option on a song, allowing them to “Pre-Pay” the mechanical royalties for a song. The pre-payment of expected royalties is a common practice in the music industry when dealing with indie artists.

You'll still receive all of the royalties you currently receive from streaming and performing rights organizations, and the indie artist will still be required to request the copyright info from us and provide this information to the distribution platforms and streamers they go through...no worries on this.

We’ll be launching the Royalty Free License option shortly, priced initially at $99.00. To add the Royalty Free option to individual song in your catalog, look for the check box in your Rocket Songs profile dashboard next to the "Make Visible On Rocket Songs" banner. Just click on the box and that's it.

So if you want to generate more licensing revenue for your songs, click on the Royalty Free box for the song and make it happen. We believe you’ll be glad you did.
