If Sports Don't Go, What Is The Point Of Training?

IF SPORTS DON'T GO, WHAT IS THE POINT OF TRAINING?

This is a question that has come up in discussions about this upcoming fall season. And I wish I had a great answer for it.

At the time of this writing, there have been a couple school districts in Ohio that have postponed the start of the fall sports season. A few others that have suspended all extra curricular activities for the time being.

And I feel more are coming.

I'm not here to debate whether they should or shouldn't go because my mind changes when the wind blows.

But, if there isn't a season, you are going to have athletes that will be pretty dejected. Some of these athletes have not competed since prior to this thing starting. There sole focus has been keep working hard to get to this point, August 1 and the beginning of fall practices.

If that gets pushed back or possibly even cancelled, you going to tell those kids, "get back to training and eventually you might get a season somewhere down the line."

Yeah maybe.

I suppose for kids that aren't seniors, that is part of what you say. Keep grinding. Stay focused on the positives and good things will happen. Hopefully, there will be a payoff at some point.

Unfortunately, I can't draw on anything in my past that comes close to this to try and make this feel any better. I don't know what character building cliche' to say and make it make sense for these athletes.

If it gets cancelled, this could be the second straight season for some of these athletes they did not get to play their sport. Not because of some injury, but something beyond their control.

What do you say to those athletes to keep them engaged especially if they still have more sports to play??

I'd love to hear what you think. Beyond, stay positive and keep focusing on what you need to do to get better. Keep training to be ready. Be ready to rock and roll when you are finally allowed to play.

That is the best I can come up with. Hopefully, it will work.
