In the field: Autumn Schrock - Light Side Up
Coming up with creative ideas is one thing. Executing, of course, is a whole other realm of challenges. In 2019, Autumn Schrock and a team of fellow adventure photographers decided to move forward on Nate Luebbe’s idea of capturing the Aurora Borealis from the stratosphere. With such a bold concept, ‘challenge’ soon became a theme. They dealt with obstacles that were forecasted, but also a few surprises along the way. A key component would be to create a stabilization system for their (at the time) unreleased Sony a7S III cameras while floating in the stratosphere capturing the Aurora.

Even the seemingly less intense moments - like shooting talking head interviews would create challenges, as they would need to shoot them while sitting on ice block chairs - in an ice museum - located in the Arctic. Congrats to the Autumn, Nate and Auston Smith on their efforts.
