NYC Travel Tip #7: Walking The High Line Park

Dear ,

Those unfamiliar with the New York City may not be aware of Manhattan's West side High Line Park, a unique 1.45 mile public park built on a historic rail line. The park runs from Gansevoort Street to West 34th Street. What makes this park so unique is that it's elevated above the street which gives excellent views of the city and the river. Whether you're jogging or just strolling through, there are plenty of things to see and do in the area.

Park Access
There are several points on Manhattan's West Side where you can access the park via elevator. Some of the elevator access locations include: 14th Street, 16th Street, 23rd Street, and 30th Street. The entire High Line is wheelchair accessible. There are also accessible restrooms, picnic tables, the Beams play feature, and the Rail Track Walks, which are all wheel-chair friendly.

Unique Features
High Line park has some unique features including the Tiffany & Co Foundation Overlook. This showcases where the original railway was severed before the park was built and also offers great views of the Meatpacking district. Another favorite spot on the High Line is the Chelsea Market Passage. Here you can see seasonal art and cultural programs. During the high season there are also several food trucks and an open-air cafe where you can grab a snack or a full meal.

Fun for Children
Kids will love visiting the High Line and seeing some of the kid-specific areas. The Diller - von Furstenburg sundeck and water feature gives everyone a chance to dip their feet in the water on a hot day. Kids will also love playing on the silicone-coated surfaces of the original steel beams and girders from the railway, which can be found at the Pershing Square Beams location west of 11th Avenue.

Top Tip:
Start your day with High Line and Chelsea Walking Tour - tour runs daily at 9.30am. Sightseeing Pass grants you free admission worth $35 - reservations are required: More info >>
