Anyone that has ever tried to give up sugar knows just how tricky it can be!  While everyone is different, we find that having healthy substitutes to reach for when the sugar cravings hit has helped tremendously. As health and nutrition focused as we are, we are fascinated by "food science", particularly the studies that look into which nutrients help us feel full. Recent evidence shows two stand-out winners:

Protein and Fiber

Using that knowledge to benefit you, here are 3 recipes that have both protein AND fiber! These taste amazing, are filled with healthy nutrients, and are designed to help curb that sweet tooth!
Chocolate Brownie Bites

- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup almond milk
- 2 tbs ground flax seed+ 6 tbs water
- 1/2 cup apple sauce
- 1/3 cup coconut oil, melted
- 1/3 cup Kakato fiber sweetener
- 1/3 cup Organic Protein Powder
- 3 tbs cacao
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- Pinch of salt
- 1/3 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips (mixed in or sprinkled on top)

Directions:

1. In a large bowl, start by soaking the ground flax seed in water.
2. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
3. Pour batter into muffin tins and bake at 375 for 16-20 minutes.

For the ganache topping:

1. Mix 1 cup of coconut cream with 2 tbs cacao and 2 tbs Kakato fiber sweetener.
2. Mix and then refrigerate until firm. Spoon on top and enjoy.

 

Chocolate Sundae


- 2 frozen bananas
- 1 scoop Organic Protein Powder
- ¼ cup almond milk
- 1 tbs cacao

Directions:

1. Combine all the ingredients into a high-powered blender and pulse until smooth.  Sprinkle with your favorite toppings!


 
Chocolate Bliss Balls

- 1 cup of pitted dates (soaked in water for 30 minutes to soften, then drained)
- 2 1/2 cups of raw nuts and seeds – any combination you like
*** We used almonds, raw cashews, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, walnuts, hemp seed and flax seed. Just use whatever you have ***
- 1 scoop Organic Protein Powder
- 2 tbs cacao
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt

Directions:

1. Start by putting the nuts/seeds into a large food processor and pulse well. Add the rest of the ingredients and pulse until a "batter" is formed.  You may need to stop the machine to scrape down the sides.
2. Using your hands roll into little balls. You can add Kakato if you want them sweeter. You could also add a little melted coconut oil to make them creamier. 3. These are best stored in the fridge or freezer.
