Heat therapy is a great way to help your body heal.  It works so well because it helps improve blood flow and blood circulation.  It helps best with muscle pain and stiffness.

When it comes to heat therapy, there are two different types: dry heat and moist heat.  Instead of "hot" it is ideal for both types of therapy to be "warm".  Dry heat is created from sources like heating pads, heating packs, or saunas.  These forms of heat are very easy to apply.  Moist heat comes from sources like steamed towels, hot baths, and moist heating packs.

Heat therapy works best when it is allowed to sit for a good amount of time.  Usually after about 20 minutes of heat therapy you can start to feel relief from minor stiffness and tension.  If you have more severe pain then it might be better to take longer heating sessions lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple hours.
