How to Set Screen Saver to Display a Slide Show of Your Pictures
Works with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8

Welcome to the 6th week of Solvusoft’s free Windows tips and tricks that will help you to get most out of Windows’ customization options. If you spend a lot of time in front of your PC, you probably want to feel at home when using it. If you like experimenting with screen savers, this week’s tip will come handy. We will show you how to make your own screen saver using the images that you have collected on your PC. You can set screen saver to display a slide show of some, or all of your pictures.
How to Set up a My Pictures Slide Show Screensaver
Windows XP:
- Move your mouse pointer to your Windows desktop
- Right-click the mouse button, and then click Properties.
- In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Screen Saver tab.
- Click the Screen saver list, and click ‘My Pictures Slideshow’.
- Click OK
Windows Vista/ Windows 7:
1. Right-click on the desktop, and then click Personalize.
2. Click Screen Saver.
3. In the Screen Saver drop-down box, select Photos.
4. To change one or more of the screen saver settings, click Settings, and then do one or more of the following:
- To specify the photos to use for your screen saver, click Browse, choose the folder that contains the pictures you want to use, and then click OK.
- To change the speed which the photos change in the slide show, click the list next to Slide show speed, and then choose a speed.
- To have the pictures appear in a random order, select the Shuffle pictures check box.
5. Click Save to save the setting changes you made.
6. Click OK in the Screen Saver Settings dialog box. The next time your screen saver starts, you'll see a slide show of all the pictures in your My Pictures folder.
Windows 8.1:
Windows 8.1 uses feature similar to screen saver, called ‘Lock Screen’. If you are using Windows 8.1 and want to enjoy in an animated photo slide show, follow these simple steps:
- Move your mouse cursor to top-right or bottom-right corner of screen to show Charms Bar.
- Now click on Settings option.
- Click on ‘Change PC settings’ option given at the bottom. It will open Metro Control Panel or PC Settings page.
- Click on ‘Lock Screen’ thumbnail present in ‘Top settings’ section. You can also open it by going to ‘PC & devices -> Lock screen’.
- Set the option ‘Play a slide show on the lock screen’ to ‘On’ to enable slide show feature. If you want to show slide show even if your computer is on battery power, enable the option ‘Play a slide show when using battery power’.
- Click on ‘Add a folder’ button and select the desired folder.

- In the search box, you can type the name Control Panel and click on the Control Panel
- Click on ‘Appearance and Personalization’.
- Click on the folder option to open it.
- Click on Single Click to open an item (point to select).
- Click on Apply and Ok to enable this feature in your computer.
