Changes to EV Certificate Guidelines

Dear SSL.com Customer,

This message is to inform you of some changes appearing in the current version (1.7.3) of the CA/Browser Forum’s EV SSL Certificate Guidelines, which went into effect on August 20, 2020. These changes, described in CA/B Forum Ballot SC30, mandate that certificate authorities (CAs), such as SSL.com, publish the list of Registration and Incorporating Agencies that they use when validating EV SSL certificate requests. Ballot SC30 is part of an overall goal of making the information sources for EV validation consistent between CAs, and was passed unanimously by the CA and browser members of the CA/B Forum (including SSL.com) on July 13, 2020.

We do not expect that these changes to the EV SSL guidelines will result in significant impacts for SSL.com customers. As mandated by the new requirements, SSL.com will publish a list of the information sources we use when validating businesses and other organizations for EV certificates. If we cannot locate an applicant’s organization in our current list of sources, we will attempt to locate another viable information source and add it to our published list before validating the order and issuing the certificate.

If you have any questions about these changes to the EV SSL Certificate Guidelines, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
