A secret note for you
Welcome to SECRET NOTES, a new end-of-month newsletter from the creative desk here at Stumptown that rounds up some of our favorite things from this big ol' world. The content will shift from month to month, but we hope to always highlight the makers, artists, and thinkers that inspire us. We hope you enjoy it!
We all love vintage shopping and hitting our local thrift stores to find those one-of-a-kind homewares and well-worn jeans + tees that comprise most of our closets. This can be tough to do during a pandemic, and NOIHSAF Bazaar has made it all possible to do...from the comfort of Instagram. Think of it as the online Red Light of your dreams. Founder Kate Lindello also hosts @noihsaf.home @noihsaf.vintage and @noihsaf.kiddos - recycle your closet, y’all!

A trailblazing, independent filmmaker, native Seattleite Lynn Shelton was a shining, beaming example of what great directorial spirit and collaborative energy can produce. She made wonderful indie films, including Your Sister’s Sister, Laggies and the recent Sword of Trust. We’ve spent the last couple weekends catching up on her subtly inquisitive, thoughtful legacy of film and television. Rest in peace, Lynn, thank you for casting your singular eye so beautifully on our little corner of the world.

Our Portland friend Charlotte Wenzel owns Palace, one of the most delightfully curated boutiques in all the land, and she is now bringing that collection to the digital masses. Whether you’re looking for tapered candles, your new favorite slippers or mushroom extract - Palace has you covered. Our favorites? The hand woven leather Huaraches, perfect for the transition into warmer days and long morning walks with a good cup of coffee.

Reading Mark Lanegan’s new autobiography of his early career during the ‘90’s grunge scene is harrowing, at times hilarious, and filled with the types of stories you’d hear that sound like secrets. Nick Cave described it as, “primitive, brutal, and apocalyptic. What's not to love?” Sometimes ya gotta sink into another person’s history to give yourself perspective, absorb life lessons through literary osmosis, etc. Mark was recently asked when he realized he would write his memoir:  “When Tony Bourdain read my prologue and wrote back ‘You're doing it.’” We’re so glad you did.

Listen, folks. We are putting down the wine over here and one incredible way to make sure we're having a killer vinicultural experience (aside from ordering via our fave local shops - ahem, Bar Norman & Ardor) is to get it delivered directly to your door from the aesthetic wunderkinds at Scribe Winery. Their Hacienda at Home packs are filled with gorgeous pet nats, rosés, recipes for make-at-home pizzas and even bundles of dried oregano and chiles harvested from the Scribe garden. We’ll cheers to that.
