1. The Indian Army has decommissioned two of the longest-serving artillery systems from service. The 130mm Self Propelled M-46 Catapult Guns and the 160mm Tampella Mortars were decommissioned on 16 March 2021 at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges


2. Senior IPS officers M A Ganapathy and Kuldiep Singh were appointed Director-General of the National Security Guard and the Central Reserve Police Force, respectively on 16 Mar'21. Ganapathy, a 1986 batch IPS officer of the Uttarakhand cadre, is currently DG, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security


3. The government has identified several assets of state-owned telecom companies Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) for sale in FY22. The asset monetization is part of the revival plan for BSNL and MTNL, which the Union cabinet approved in October 2019


4. The India-Bangladesh Water Resources Secretary-level meeting under the framework of the Joint Rivers Commission- JRC took place on 16 March 2021 in New Delhi. Both have agreed to expand cooperation across an entire gamut of water resources issues including a framework for sharing of river waters.


5. The Union Cabinet has approved the closure of Handicrafts and Handlooms Export Corporation of India Limited (HHEC). 59 permanent employees and 6 management trainees are serving in the Corporation.


6. The Union Cabinet has approved an MoU signed between the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of the Maldives for cooperation in Sports and Youth Affairs. The MoU was signed in November 2020.


7. Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors will become operational in 2022 informed Railways' Minister Piyush Goyal on 16 March 2021. Railways are planning to start 44 Vande Bharat trains across the country. 


8. The government has informed that the average rate of inflation in the country has remained low in the last seven years except for a rise in the prices of a few items. The rise in prices of some items was due to a mismatch in demand and supply chain during the COVID-19 pandemic.


9. The Election Commission has decided to use Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) along with Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) at all the Polling Stations in the upcoming assembly elections in 4 states and UTs. VVPAT is a method of providing feedback to voters using EVMs.


10. The center will kickstart the water conservation campaign Jal Shakti Abhiyan in all districts across the nation in August 2021
