Does having an artistic parent seal your fate? It did for Marianna Mercante, founder of Ceramiche Andrilia, one of the most talented young artisans in Deruta.
Influenced and inspired by her mother's ceramics, she started to draw as a toddler, sitting on the steps of her family studio. She grew up absorbing the fundamentals of pottery making and studying Deruta classic designs.
As a young mother of two, she founded her own studio, named after her children - Andrea and Cecilia - on a mission to bring Deruta traditional pottery into the 21st century.
Extremely talented and playfully creative, Marianna is indeed producing an astonishing number of new dinnerware designs that, while based on centuries-old patterns, are bold and original, created to become tomorrow's classics.
