Most of us know Gatorade as a sports drink.

We have been told that it contains electrolytes to rehydrate people and provide energy.

Are these sports drinks really good for you?

Recently Gatorade changed its formulation and they have decided to remove brominated vegetable oil and artificial flavors from their drinks.

However, Gatorade still contains chemically processed refined sugars and questionable natural flavors, to cover up the fact that there is absolutely no fruit juice in this drink to make their fruity flavors.

Not only that, there is a ridiculous amount of sugar (36 grams) in each bottle of Gatorade. 

To replace electrolytes, you don’t need some tricky formula, man-made chemicals, colors, or refined sugars. 

All you need is simple real food, that provides a few key minerals like sodium, chloride, potassium, and magnesium.

Here are a few ways to replenish your electrolytes naturally. 

  1. Coconut Water - Coconut water is one of the richest natural sources of electrolytes and potassium, hence it will not only help you stay hydrated but also keep your body from getting cramps. It is completely natural and very low in sugar.

  1. Banana + Almond Milk - Blending this smoothie together will provide a good source of potassium and magnesium, and help regulate your fluids.

  1. Chia seeds + lemon - Chia seeds have long been prized as an endurance food. When chia seeds come into contact with liquid, they soak up the water and turn into a gel. In this way, they prolong hydration and retain electrolytes in body fluids, which protects against dehydration.
