Ricoh GRD III Review: The Vintage DigiCam No One is Talking About
by Chris Gampat
November 25, 2024
No, this isn't a review of the Ricoh GR III or its iterations. That camera boasts an APS-C sensor and a cult following that I'm sure could fill football fields across America in their own echo chamber. In 2011, photographer Eric Kim reviewed the Ricoh GRD III for the Phoblographer. At the time, all the publications didn't realize how great it was for street photography just because it had a small sensor. But we knew better. "Without spoiling anything, it is truly the best compact camera for street photography, and everybody who is serious about shooting in the streets should have one," we stated in our review. Now, in 2024, it's technically a vintage digicam. And it can easily strut around the room to shoot images that other Ricoh cameras could only dream of.
The Best Photo Books of Portrait Photography
by Chris Gampat
November 25, 2024
Fact: Instagram isn't photography. Nor is TikTok. Every time I go to photo events, I always see nothing else but "cinematic style lighting" being shot by people who know nothing about cinema, storytelling, or what brands are really going for. I'd never buy a photo book of portraits shot by a random YouTuber -- but the art that a respected career-photographer makes is much different. And that work, when compiled into a photo book, is something that speaks to someone in a timeless way. Photos made for Instagram look dated because they're content designed for an algorithm. Good photography, on the other hand, isn't. So if you're ready to jump off the social media bandwagon then check out these incredible photo books of portrait photography.

Canon has been known to not work with third-party lens makers. But this year, that changed. With Sigma, Canon has opened a new pathway for their APS-C cameras to get more lenses. There have been rumors that Sigma will launch a bunch of new lenses, and now Sigma Global has announced the dates for the same, as well as the focal lengths. Canon has become the latest company to join hands with Sigma. It is a little late to the party, but it is still arriving for the sake of the customers.
Why Fujifilm’s Latest Development Might Spell Trouble for Photographers
by Nilofer Khan
November 25, 2024
Although we may not see any more Fujifilm launches this year, the announcement of Fujifilm's venture into film cameras has us a bit concerned. This year, the company launched four new cameras and lenses, with the last camera entry being centric to videos. This should have given us a hint about where Fujifilm's direction is headed, but it was much to our surprise that they chose to get into videos on such a big scale. After all, they are set to compete against Sony, Blackmagic, and other similar brands, which is a great enough opportunity. However, this unveiling seems to be a challenge for photographers.

A nifty fifty is a critical lens for many photographers dabbling with various genres. From good portraits to food to landscapes and weddings, one can achieve images that match the human perception. It's also why many young photographers with a kit lens gradually shift to an f1.2 or f2.8 once they get the hang of it. What if we tell you there is a new nifty fifty that not only gives you a larger aperture but also has a unique glow-in-the-dark marking? Well, it is true; a new lens like this is reportedly on its way from Brightin Star for you.
