Explore gorgeous Giverny where the artist Claude Monet drew so much of his inspiration for his Impressionism work and lived for over 40 years.
Monet once claimed that he was a man who is interested in nothing but his painting and gardening. So to inspire himself, he built his gardens in Giverny, a village on the River Seine some 80 km west of Paris, where he lived for 43 years until he passed away. His beautiful gardens were a sanctuary for the aging Monet and his family, especially during his later years when the outside world is wrapped in war and political turmoil. His house and garden is also a work of art, and Monet put all his life into creating and perfecting it. Join us on this one-hour virtual experience to see this magnificant location.
“I am chasing a dream, I want the unattainable. Other artists paint a bridge, a house, a boat; and that’s the end. They’ve finished. I want to paint the air which surrounds the bridge, the house, the boat; the beauty of the air in which these objects are located; and that is nothing short of impossible. If only I could satisfy myself with what is possible.” - Claude Monet

The Life of Leonardo Da Vinci
Saturday, December 12, at 4 pm EST

His Youth
Leonardo was born in Tuscany in the town of...Vinci, you guessed it! We'll take a look at his early years as an apprentice in the shop of Florentine artist Verrocchio, and hear about the early signs of young Leonardo's artistic genius. We'll explore the early years of his career, and the success which took him to work in Milan for the famous Duke, Ludovico Sforza. We'll discover the secrets of the paintings Leonardo completed during this period, including the Belle Ferronnière and the Virgin on the Rocks.

His Mature Years

After many years in Milan, Leonardo's fame had spread and he was Europe's most highly solicited artist. He spent the next few decades traveling across Italy, working for the crème de la crème of the Italian elite, including the famous Isabella d'Este and even the pope. This is when he began the Mona Lisa - the iconic portrait that would become the symbol of his artistic genius and expertise.

His Old Age

After a long visit to Rome as the guest of Pope Leo X, Leonardo took the plunge and moved to France, to work under King Francis 1st at his royal palace in Amboise. Leonardo took up home at the Clos-Lucé palace and spent the last years of his life polishing and perfecting three paintings that he had brought with him from home (Can you guess which ones they are?). In 1519, according to legend, the Italian artist died in the arms of the French king and left behind an unparalleled legacy in the arts, sciences, and architecture -- an Italian genius, in France.
