Hi Friends,

On the eve of our national holiday, we are excited to share all that has been happening at Tofino Resort + Marina this month. The entire resort, both restaurants and marina plus Tuff Fit gym have now been open for a few weeks. It hasn’t been easy but it’s been well worth it just to see your smiling faces. With sunny summer weather in full effect and the return of world-class cuisine, Tofino feels back, and dare we say, it feels better than ever. See you soon.

Interview with a Future Olympian
Tofino Resort + Marina Adventure Ambassador Mathea Olin

Canadian champion surfer Mathea Olin is one half of The Olin Sisters, a dynamic duo raised in Tofino’s surf and emerald rainforest. As adventure ambassadors at Tofino Resort + Marina, they stay true to the west coast lifestyle we have put at the centre of our purpose. We recently interviewed Mathea about her favourite beaches, surfing in the upcoming Olympic Games, and what it means to live a successful life. Read it here.

1909 Kitchen is Open
...and delivering right to your door

How long can one go without albacore tuna and fresh black cod? These are the questions we asked ourselves while 1909 Kitchen remained closed. Wonder no more, friends. After a long wait, the 1909 Kitchen team re-opened our doors on June 15th. Reservations are strongly recommended for 1909 Kitchen dinner service. Additionally, we are now offering takeout and delivery, that's right, get the best of 1909 Kitchen straight to your door.

In response to COVID-19 protocols, the restaurants will operate with enhanced physical distancing and hand sanitizing will be in place to ensure safety of both staff and guests. A few locations will also be equipped with plexiglass to create appropriate separation between seating spaces. Clean hands and happy smiles are the goal. Thank you for the support over the past few months.
We are ecstatic to welcome you back to dine on the water with us.

Race for the Blue 2020
Early Bird Registration Opens Tomorrow
Anticipation is building. Tofino Resort + Marina is excited to host the 3rd annual Race for The Blue. The past two years have delivered incredible parties, an amazing concert we cleverly dubbed Catchella, and, of course, a schwack of tasty tuna for deep sea fishers who have a hankering for long days on the water. It’s also an opportunity for enterprising fishing crews to potentially win a $25,000 cash grand prize and over $30,000 worth in additional prizing. Want to experience the excitement of the blue water and Pacific albacore tuna fishing while supporting a sustainable fishery in B.C.’s rarely-visited offshore paradise? Join us for a week of action from September 11th to 19th and discover the Pacific at its finest, out of sight from land with the vast blue below. Or come anytime really…the ocean is always worth a visit.  We will be announcing our Early Bird offer on our social media accounts tomorrow, be sure to check in with us on the gram.
Swell Folks: Tom Balfour of Central Westcoast Forest Society

The Central Westcoast Forest Society (CWFS) was founded in 1995 by loggers, First Nations, biologists and forestry professionals who recognized the need to address the loss of habitat in order to preserve our wild fish stocks. As partners in our Fish For The Future Fund, we are proud to support CWFS’ efforts in salmon habitat restoration. We recently caught up with Tom Balfour of CWFS to hear more about how they put real boots on the ground (and in streams) in order to protect and build salmon habitat up and down the coast. Read the interview here.
A Day with the Whales
An Excerpt from life on the West Coast

“The boat we are in is so incredibly powerful. It feels safe in the big waves, and Captain Jeff expertly drives it so as not to allow the boat to get roughed-up by the swell. We all keep our eyes peeled for any sightings. Grey whales, humpbacks and orcas are the most common whales seen around here, but today we are specifically looking for the greys that are here frequently in this season. Then we get the call. There’s one near the shore. As we get closer to the beach, the fog lifts and the sun shines down on us, as if we’ve been destined to meet up with the juvenile grew playing in the surf. I’ve seen whales many times before, but never like this. In only 10-12 feet of water, a smallish grey whale feeds off the sea floor, using its baleen to munch the ocean floor, suck up all the shrimp, shellfish and other animals, and then filter it through its baleen. Push out the silt. Swallow the rest. The experience is one I will never forget…”
