A few weeks ago, we asked you to vote for us as Racked's Best Place in LA to Shop for Vintage. Congratulations to us! Thanks to your votes we won! Our Los Angeles store has proved a tremendous success this month, as we've also been featured in Refinery29's L.A.'s Top 50 L.A. Boutiques. It's a pleasure for us to be referred to as "excelling at Hollywood glamour gowns"! Since things always happen in threes, we're happy to announce that Angeleno Magazine calls our L.A store "the ultimate dream closet". At both our Los Angeles and New York locations, we provide a unique shopping experience with one-of-a-kind lifestyle concept stores and the finest vintage pieces. Make sure to say hi next time you pass by!
EVERYONE NEEDS A LITTLE CHANEL
Whether you want to give a classic twist to a rock 'n' roll outfit or add a hint of elegance to a casual look, Chanel remains a fashion option that you can rely on. In fact, did we mention that it is almost a fashion blasphemy not to have at least a little piece of Chanel in your closet?
At WGACA, we provide a handpicked selection of authentic Chanel Handbags mostly from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. Our Vintage experts also select a wide selection of their gold plated costume jewelry, trying to find iconic pieces that will rock any of your outfits. We love the stories behind those Chanel items and the values of craftsmanship and authenticity they carry.
Carrying a Chanel Handbag is not just about fashion anymore, it is a statement! The 2.55 handbag, created by Coco Chanel back in 1955, was the first bag designed to women's needs, so they could have their hand free to talk, drink and smoke. Through time, the bag has evolved, but remains iconic: Karl Lagerfeld has changed the original lock into a double C Mademoiselle lock, while lambskin has been woven thru the snake chain. There are now two iconic bags in the Chanel landscape: the original 2.55 (which was reissued in 2005), and the Timeless Classic (a Lagerfeld version of the original bag) have become key pieces in a fashionista's wardrobe.
Paired with a rock tee, a leather jacket, denim shorts and our studded converse, a Chanel bag instantly adds the perfect twist of Parisian elegance, giving a real allure to your whole look. With an authentic vintage Chanel tweed jacket and a pair of high waisted jeans, the Chanel bag is highly appropriate for a work environment and of course, a vintage Timeless Classic is always a great success at a dinner party or any trendy event.
As for Chanel's highly collectible costume jewelry, this is just what you need to follow this winter's trend of statement jewelry. A Baroque sautoir or a logo necklace will always do the trick over a simple white t-shirt, while huge double C earrings will add just the perfect dose of 80's extravaganza to any look.
Back in April 2010, What Goes Around Comes Around was celebrating the unveiling of a new Vintage Chanel Collection at Shopbop in our SoHo store. Hosted by Lake Bell, Becki Newton and Melissa Goerge, the event was a great success. Two years later, Shopbop is still offering the finest selection of WGACA Vintage Chanel Bags and Jewelry. Ready for some of our Chanel awesomeness? Check us out at Shopbop or our online shop! Still not convinced that everyone needs a little Chanel? Stop by our Soho or Los Angeles store and let our vintage experts convince you.
At What Goes Around Comes Around, we love the style and humor of fashion blogger Leandra Medine. In January 2011, she hosted a party alongside other bloggers at our SoHo store. Almost 2 years later, we're still admiring her unique fashion eye and natural beauty. We've been thrilled to see her everywhere on NYC subway cars, being one of Uniqlo's new campaign fresh faces. Besides being a bankable fashion icon, Leandra has also become a social media star, with more than 95 000 followers on twitter. What a success! This week, we've been quite seduced by her post "Funvesting in Fall". Wondering where the innovation has gone in this season's fashion, she suggests that her readers invest on classics:
"I've found this season that investing in a few pieces to wear with the aforementioned jeans, t shirts and sweaters is far more reasonable than, well, starting over."
Amongst Leandra's classic picks: short booties and motorcycle jackets. At WGACA, we think those pieces are definitely iconic... And maybe even more iconic if you decide to invest in vintage ones! Make sure to check out our Soho store to find the hottest selection of leather jackets... That are Man Repeller-approved! And to see pictures of Leandra having fun at our Soho Store, check out this post she wrote in January 2011 after spending an evening of fun with with her co-hosts at WGACA SoHo.
A vintage leather jacket should be a basic in any man's wardrobe... And Christian, one of our store managers, will not contradict you! As for Alix, she'd rather spend a "Breakfast at Chanel" wearing fur than a "Breakfast at Tiffany's" in a little black dress. Come and say hi to them at our SoHo store and discover our on trend selection of Vintage Chanel Handbags and Jewelry, amazing vintage fur, and a great new collection of vintage leathers.
Our new store is the place you want to head to for festive and affordable holiday clothing! Come and meet Amanda, our vintage fashion expert. Isn't she wearing our new arrivals in the most exquisite way? For more fashion ideas and combinations, stop by our store and meet our vintage experts.
Did we mention our L.A store just received an amazing collection of jewelry from LA designer Gabriela Artigas? Just like our manager Heather, get a unique look by pairing Gabriela's stunning jewelry with our collection of vintage rock and graphic tees. Not your style? We also provide good designers classics, and we just received some amazing vintage Yves Saint Laurent! Visit us and let our vintage experts guide you.
SOHO - Initiatives in Art and Culture + WGACA
Initiatives for Arts and Culture present its 14th Annual Conference: One of a Kind, Individuality, Integrity, and Innovation in Fashion. From November 30th to December 1st, the conference will discuss iconic individuals and institutions whose contributions have played critical roles in defining modern fashion. Speakers will include fashion photographer Deborah Turbeville; Valerie Steele, the Director and Chief Curator of the Museum at FIT; Nicole Phelps, executive director at Style.com; and many more including WGACA's Creative Director Gerard Maione.
Don't miss the fabulous opportunity to meet the speakers at the WGACA reception that will follow the event at our SoHo store. Authors Roger and Mauricio Padilha will be present for a signing of their book: Antonio Lopez: Fashion, Art, Sex and Disco. From launching the modeling careers of Jerry Hall and Grace Jones, to the creation of campaigns for YSL and Valentino, the illustrator Antonio Lopez marked the generations of the 60's, 70's and 80's, being a major influence for designers such as Anna Sui. Today, he remains as iconic as Andy Warhol. Registration and more information is available here.
