THE WINE OF THE '82 VINTAGE IN MAGNUM...

Matt from Parcelle here. I'm back with my top 30 picks for this week's auction. For me, this auction will be all about the French classics, including some rare gems in both colors from Burgundy, exciting depth in large format, mature red Bordeaux, plus some Granges des Peres, and the last great vintage made by Charly and Nady Foucault. I added a few of my favorite white Burgs in as well (sorry if I've been kind of overwhelmingly red the last few weeks). A couple of surprises from California, too.

Granges des Peres has really blown up. Both red and white were always exquisite-dense and original wines-which spoke to Laurent Vaille's tutelage under Gerard Chave, Jean-Francois Coche, and Eloi Durrbach at Trevallon. These are the best wines in the Languedoc without question and scarce everywhere, including at auction. 2010 was the last great vintage made by the brothers Foucault. Do not miss. Mags of Jamets are very rare indeed. Jamet is really the best of old and new in Cote Rotie. '99 Verset has finally shed its backward brooding and has become perilously close to charming even. I had '88 Guigal La Turque a few years back. Very much in the La La groove in every way you could possibly want. While being fortunate enough to be able to ask Thierry Allemand to explain the differences between Chaillots and Reynard may not be clarifying, what is absolutely clear is that you should always buy both whenever the opportunity arises.
