Milk Street and Customer Favorite: The Cuisipro 4-Sided Box Grater
From its broad cutting surface to quality craftsmanship and bonus features that we’ll actually use, the Cuisipro far surpasses other box graters on the market.
The multifunctional box grater is a necessity in the modern kitchen, yet most don’t deliver great results. We’ve struggled to grate hard veggies like carrots and soft foods like mozzarella, with bits getting caught in crevices and shreds coming out unevenly. Some high-end graters are too fussy–compromising functionality for too many fancy features that decrease efficiency—and others have bent and broken during use, unable to withstand frequent wear and tear. So after rigorous research and thought about our box grater must-haves, we compared 3 top box graters to see which one shines during basic shredding jobs, and has bonus features that actually work.
We judged each grater on the following criteria: cutting surfaces, sharpness, stability and sturdiness, comfort, size, ease of cleaning and usable bonus features. Our winner? The Cuisipro 4-Sided Box Grater, which expertly combines precision, toughness and multifunctionality.

Don’t just take our word for it, see what our customers are saying:
Game Changer
“The teeth are a precision slicing machine. I can go through cheeses, zest and veggies so quickly. The base holds it for easy measurements. Gave my old one to Goodwill.” —Vickie K.
Great Grater
“I used the grater to grate the many zucchini from my garden. As warned, the blades are very sharp and made quick work of the squash. I also like the bottom, which holds the shredded zucchini in place. This allowed me to hold the grater on the stable counter rather than in a less steady bowl.” —Fei S.
Best Grater I’ve Used “This works grate! (see what I did there?) Just as advertised, each side is extra sharp, and grates, zests and slices fantastically.” —Kenneth D.

Here’s the breakdown of how the Cuisipro compares:
Just the Right Orientation of Cutting Surfaces
Each of the Cuisipro’s cutting sides is thoughtfully selected and arranged, as some brands give valuable real estate to less-useful blades. For example, some graters relegate its most useful blade—the medium grate—to a narrow side, while its subpar slicer takes up a wider surface.
The Cuisipro has optimized the most-used standard grating shapes. Its patented Surface Glide Technology uses tiny grooves on every grating plate to promote airflow beneath for a smoother, less sticky grating process—so you get more done with less effort.
The Cuisipro’s coarse grate is slightly larger than the standard, but it proved much better for dishes like grated salads and vegetables, breaking down harder foods more cleanly and quickly. The slice side features a wider blade than your standard box grater, so it’s easier to tackle larger hard foods. Its medium grate is its most versatile—making quick work of everything from cheese to squash to carrots. And the fine grate is top-notch—with a much better shape than other brands, which usually have a perforated star cutter that performs poorly and is messy to boot. By contrast, the Cuisipro’s fine teeth are akin to a rasp-style grater and can handle many types of food densities, including jobs like delicate zesting and grating melt-in-your-mouth shavings of Parmesan.

Etched versus Punched Blades for Ultra Sharpness
Most graters have punched blades, which can have a hard time biting through tough textures like apple skin and are overall not as durable and precise. But the Cuisipro’s ultrasharp etched blades can tackle hard and soft foods alike.
Strong Steel and Rubberized Top and Bottom Surfaces for Comfort & Stability
The Cuisipro is built to last from strong stainless steel—it won’t buckle under the normal pressure of grating like other brands we tried. It also has a rubberized edge on its clip-in base to keep the grater in place and your fingers safe. The ergonomically designed handle is also rubberized, making it more comfortable to use than a standard metal handle, easier to grip even with wet hands and ideal when grating slippery foods like tomatoes.
Compact Size
Despite its myriad extra features, the Cuisipro keeps a compact standard footprint, unlike other brands, which can get bulky.
Seamless Edges for Easy Cleaning
One high-quality grater we tested had inset metal panels surrounded by plastic, and they trapped food every time. We love the Cuisipro's seamless edges, which have no divots for bits to get stuck and rinses clean every time. Plus, its open top and roomy interior make it easy to get a dish brush or sponge in all of its nooks and crannies.

The removable base catches (and measures for volume!) food within the grater for easy transport—no more messy cutting boards, dirty measuring cups or carrot shreds falling on the floor on their way to the stir-fry pan.
The Cuisipro has etched volume measurements up the side, so you can see exactly how much grated food is inside without requiring extra attachable measuring cups, which can be bulky to store.
