Hi There,
There's this idea that beauty peaks. Somewhere around 25, you've had your moment, and everything after that is just chasing something that was.
We've been thinking about this a lot lately — we opened our first store in Toronto, which has caused us to reflect on how much has changed since we started 19/99; kids, loss, stress, joy, highs and lows...general living. And we are freaked out sometimes by the changes in our faces.
AND yet — we don't think the face we have now is any "worse" than it was when we launched, or 10 years before that. Our goal now isn’t to chase a gone version, preserve what was. Because we always come back to the same question — who the fuck decided this? And why should we believe them?
We aren't finished goods that are now depreciating. We are still becoming — who we are and who we will be. And this is the entire reason 19/99 exists: makeup that moves forward with you.
It's also why opening our first shop feels like such a big deal — it’s a physical place for this whole idea to live. A place to actually meet the people this brand is for.
We're going to start sending these notes monthly — things we're thinking about, talking about in the shop, excited about, appalled by. If there's something you want us to cover, tell us.
And if you're in Toronto, come see us at the shop (208 Christie St.) or send a note back here. We love to hear from you.
X Camille and Stephanie
