A postpartum specialist recently checked the full ingredient lists of five of the most popular stretch mark products on Amazon, Reddit, and pregnancy forums, then compared them against the clinical research to see which ones actually contain what the science supports.

The results were surprising. Most of them don't.

Cocoa butter, which is the base ingredient in probably the most well-known stretch mark cream on the market, has been put through multiple randomised controlled trials. It performs no better than placebo for preventing stretch marks.

Same with olive oil. Same with shea butter.

There are only two topical ingredients with any meaningful clinical evidence behind them, and only one of the five products tested contained both of them as primary actives, listed at the top of the formula where the concentrations actually matter.
