Caring for my grandmother is a privilege and an honor. But it is also hard. From navigating complex health care decisions to dealing with rising costs and utilities, there were moments when I felt the weight of it all and wasn’t always sure what to do next.
I hear the same from friends who are just starting their caregiving journey, not knowing where to turn or what support exists. For me, having access to trusted information — including from AARP — helped me find answers to questions I didn’t even know I had, like how to handle unexpected costs.
Right now, 63 million family caregivers are providing billions of hours of care for their loved ones with little to no support while balancing full-time jobs and everything else life demands. I’ve been there. And while support made a difference for me, it also showed me how much families — especially in our communities — are left to figure it out on their own. That’s why I believe our leaders need to step up and provide commonsense solutions that will save family caregivers time and money and provide them with more support.
If you’ve ever cared for someone — or love someone who has — you know how much this matters. Can you speak up and say you’ll vote for the care families deserve this election season?
Sign the pledge and say “I vote to support family caregivers!”
Today and every day, we cherish family caregivers.
With gratitude,
