-, special interest groups in Washington are trying to cut the Social Security you’re earning. They think the best way to fix Social Security for the long term is to cut payments.

Social Security is money we’ve earned throughout our working lives. Americans 50-plus cannot afford, and do not accept, ANY cuts to our hard-earned money.

Sign our new Social Security Bill of Rights. Say you stand against these harmful changes:

1. NO cuts to Social Security payments
2. NO cuts to the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA)
3. NO raising the retirement age
4. NO privatizing Social Security

Here’s what we know: Congress must act in the next few years to keep Social Security strong. Social Security isn’t going broke. But in about seven years, Social Security will have about 80 percent of the money it needs to make full payments.

We also know this: the 20 percent payment gap is ABSOLUTELY something Congress can fix without cuts.

Our leaders should always work to strengthen Social Security and protect what we’ve paid into over a lifetime of hard work. When you sign on to the Social Security Bill of Rights, you’re reminding leaders that AARP’s nearly 38 million members are watching.
