ACLU Supporter, the Supreme Court has rejected, for now, abortion opponents' attempt to make it harder for people everywhere in the country to get mifepristone – a safe and effective medication used in most abortions and for miscarriage care. This ruling means that while this case continues, patients will still be able to obtain this essential medication at their local pharmacy or through the mail after receiving care through telemedicine, as they have done for more than five years. This win is a sigh of relief for the millions of patients across the country who rely on telemedicine to get the abortion and miscarriage care they need – but without permanent federal protections, our right to abortion still hangs in the balance, even in states where it is legal.
While this is good news for now, this case isn't over yet. We all know that the anti-abortion politicians driving attacks like this one want to end all abortion access nationwide and will keep coming for our rights with the same lies and propaganda we've seen them pushing in this case. That's why we're fighting so hard to end these attacks once and for all by securing federal protections for the right to abortion. Reproductive healthcare, including abortion and miscarriage care, should be accessible and affordable for every person in this country. Thanks for joining us in action, J.J. Straight P.S. Our legal experts will be hosting a rapid response volunteer call next Monday to break down what's happening in this case and what you can do about it. Will you join us? RSVP today. |
