The United States of America was established on the promise that together, we could form a more perfect union built on the ideals of liberty and justice for all. Today, this promise is under extreme attack from the regressive authoritarian movement led by President Trump, who are working furiously to shrink our “we,” to cut out entire groups, deny them fundamental rights, restrict their autonomy, and write them out of the American story.

We won't allow it to happen. That's why we're working to:

• Safeguard Birthright Citizenship: When President Trump attempted to take away the constitutional right of birthright citizenship for children born on U.S. soil, the ACLU and our partners took him to court and won, striking down his executive order and upholding the rights of citizens that are plainly stated in the Constitution.
• Protect Medical Privacy for Trans People & Their Families: The Department of Justice is demanding that hospitals in New York City turn over private medical records of trans youth – so we're suing on behalf of their families. On June 24, we won a temporary restraining order blocking the disclosure of plaintiffs' and class members' medical information, and we'll keep fighting to uphold the constitutional rights of transgender young people and their families.
• Defend Voting Rights: In states from Tennessee to Louisiana, the ACLU is mobilizing voters and taking state governments to court to ensure that wherever anti-voter politicians are working to silence Black voters and enact discriminatory district maps, there is someone fighting back.
• And so much more.
