We on the ATK Reviews team like to stop and take stock of our favorite moments from the past year. But since we spend our days meticulously researching and evaluating kitchen equipment, our professional highlights feel a little different than many others we hear about.

Lisa McManus fried dozens and dozens of apple fritters to test enameled cast-iron skillets, and Miye Bromberg shucked a similarly massive mountain of oysters for her oyster knives review. Both editors recall being the “life of the party” for friends and work colleagues for a few glorious weeks—a welcome change from some of our more tedious, less social testing.

Other teammates relished the opportunity to delve into an interesting topic during research, like Valerie Sizhe Li through her partnership with local coffee experts while testing manual espresso makers and meat grinders. A few of us got excited about new models on the market for devices we love, like seltzer-lover Kate Shannon and her enthusiasm for our expanded lineup of soda makers (a winner for every fizzy friend in your life).
