Watch time: 1h 37min | Sage talks to Byron Katie
We all carry beliefs we never stopped to question. Some run the show for years, shaping what we think is possible, what we think we deserve, and what we're willing to go after.
So how do you start to dismantle a disempowering belief once you identify one? First, it helps to understand how a belief is built in the first place.
Think of that belief as a tabletop. The legs holding it up are all the experiences, memories, and "evidence" your brain has collected over time to feel certain that it’s true. Some of those legs are solid. Others were built from something you heard years ago that stuck, a single painful moment, or sheer repetition.
And here’s the truth: a table with wobbly legs isn't hard to tip over. And that's exactly what you can do. Knock those legs of certainty out from your disempowering beliefs by questioning them with real honesty.
In Awaken the Giant Within, Tony gives you a set of questions designed to do exactly that. But we also want to share a powerful tool from Tony's dear friend Byron Katie called “The Work.” Her process is something Tony has shared and recommended for decades because it aligns with what he teaches about breaking the pattern of limiting beliefs.
At its core are four questions you can ask about any disempowering belief:
1. Is it true?
2. Can you absolutely know it's true?
3. How do you react when you believe that thought?
4. Who would you be without it?
These questions slow you down and create space between you and the thoughts or beliefs that have been running on autopilot. And in that space, clarity shows up.
Take the disempowering belief you circled from the deep dive article above. Walk it through these four questions this week. You might be surprised by how quickly the certainty starts to break down.
Because on the other side of that breaking point is the breakthrough you've been waiting for.
