Your Home Needs an Enormous Clay Pot

Statement ceramic pieces are all the rage, as evidenced by our June cover

With increasing regularity, the same item keeps popping up in AD home tours: a towering clay pot. Similar clay and terracotta giants appear in home tours from Laguna Beach to the Hudson Valley—weathered antiquities that steal the spotlight. But no homes are so blessed with pottery of the truly enormous variety as Jeremiah Brent and Nate Berkus’s Portuguese farmhouse which appears on the cover of our June issue. The ubiquity of these towering pieces speaks to a new style of aspirational interior: Not one that’s manicured, but intentional with its imperfections and thoughtfully accumulated over time. While I would love to find the perfect piece in the ruins of my orchard (Nate and Jeremiah-core), for now we’ll all have have to settle for true relics from 1st Dibs and Pottery Barn’s modern interpretations.
