Summer Is Tough on Your Walls

The longer days of summer are hard on anything hanging on your walls. Direct sunlight is one of the fastest ways to ruin a photo or print, and the damage builds quietly. A frame in a bright room can look fine for months, and then one day you notice the colors have gone flat and the dark tones have turned brown. By then it is too late. Fading does not reverse. Once the light has pulled the color out of a print, there is no putting it back.

The good news is that it is easy to prevent, and it comes down to two upgrades. UV-protective glass blocks the vast majority of the rays that cause fading, so a piece can hang in a sunny spot for years without losing its color. A non-glare finish cuts the harsh reflections and wash-out you get when light hits the glass head on, so you actually see the art instead of the window behind you. You can add either one, or both, to any custom frame.

They are worth it on anything you would hate to lose. Family photos, a watercolor, a concert poster, the kids' artwork, anything with color that matters and a spot near a window. It is a small choice now that saves the piece for years.
