The Trends Redefining Women’s Health Right Now

Vitafoods Europe is the industry’s flagship annual event, and brings together over 30,000 players across nutraceuticals, functional food and wellness. And the most interesting thing this year wasn’t a novelty ingredient or magic formulation; it was that it felt like the category has had a reset. After a decade of over‑promising and under‑delivering, there’s a move away from miracle narratives and toward something that feels more mature: supporting the body from a systems perspective, improving resilience and enhancing long‑term function. 

The good news is that health is being reframed less as aesthetics and more as capacity – the ability to think clearly, maintain strength, regulate appetite, digest food, sleep well and stay emotionally steady in a high‑pressure, modern world. Within this, a lot of what showed up this year sits under the theme of health span and longevity – not in the extreme Brian Johnson way, but in a very practical sense of how long we can stay strong, metabolically flexible, and mentally sharp. Here’s what was front and center.  

GLP‑1s are completely reshaping the metabolic category. If you follow industry leaders, you’ll notice that the debate has moved past simplistic “good vs bad” arguments into a more practical question: what happens to your body when appetite is chemically suppressed, but other lifestyle factors remain unchanged? 

Rapid weight loss without a clear strategy for resistance training and nutritional support has consequences in other areas of our health: low energy, muscle loss, poor digestion, and more nutrient gaps. What we have come to learn since the boom of these medications is that weight loss achieved in this way is metabolically fragile unless it’s built on a foundation of muscle, micronutrient sufficiency, and blood sugar control. 

This is the real opportunity for thoughtful metabolic support. Products targeting muscle health, micronutrient status, mitochondrial function and essential fatty acid intake are becoming less of a nice‑to‑have for these individuals and instead, are becoming a critical layer around GLP‑1 use to support overall wellbeing.  

One of the most positive shifts this year was the reframing of muscle from purely aesthetic to an essential organ of longevity – particularly for women. Sarcopenia (the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass, strength and function that occurs with ageing), bone density and insulin sensitivity were front and center, and the conversation finally reflected what practitioners see daily: muscle is one of the most powerful levers for metabolic health, mood, resilience and healthy body composition.
 

For women in their 30s, 40s and 50s, this is a big deal. Hormonal shifts, anabolic resistance and time pressures from family commitments make it harder to build and maintain muscle. As such, high‑quality protein intake, creatine and targeted electrolyte support are no longer reserved for athletes; they are being used as everyday tools for women who want to stay strong, independent and metabolically robust. Personally, I have noticed an enormous shift in my strength, recovery, but also cognitive clarity since starting creatine, which has been invaluable to me during this phase of life (working moms: IYKYK).  

Gut health has been a “trend” for long enough to almost lose its meaning, but it deserves its place at the center of the conversation. And that’s because it’s now widely recognised as a key regulator of mood, appetite, immune function, inflammation and hormonal health.

This evolution is overdue. Anyone living with ongoing gut issues already knows (or instinctively feels) that digestion rarely exists in isolation; it sits at the intersection of stress, diet, medication, sleep, inflammation, movement and the microbiome, which is why it so often travels with skin flare‑ups, fatigue, and emotional volatility. Much like the shifting view of muscle, the emerging message in gut health is simple: move away from chasing a flat stomach and focus instead on building a genuinely functional digestive system. 

With this, fibre was, unsurprisingly, a clear trend – as 9/10 of us are still falling short of basic targets. Fibre supplements offer a high‑impact, low‑effort way to address one of the most consistent gaps in modern diets. Why supplement? Well, because meaningful dietary shifts take time to embed, and it’s unrealistic to expect perfect eating in the middle of real life. Where fibre supplements really add value is in providing a practical, repeatable way to increase intake consistently, while the slower work of changing food patterns, habits and environments has time to catch up. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look to food – food is always fundamental. But when a nutrient is this important, waiting until your diet is “perfect” before you allow yourself to feel better is neither realistic nor necessary. 

There was also a clear focus on cognitive performance and emotional resilience, with more serious attention on stress, burnout, and the need for nervous system support rather than just stimulation. Over the last few years, my own health has made this shift feel very real. I’ve had to move away from “push harder, do more” and towards respecting stress, burnout and the nervous system, and with this, I take cognitive performance and emotional resilience more seriously – not just as productivity tools, but as core parts of health and happiness. Whatever your interest, the shifts happening in the industry are aligning more closely with a practitioners mindset: the biggest gains come not from chasing the next quick fix or TikTok trend, but from committing to a holistic, consistent, connected approach to health – one that protects your energy, muscle, gut and mood over time, and supports you to feel well enough to live the life you actually want.
