Portraiture has been around for a very long time — think ancient-Egypt-long-time. Once used as a way to represent powerful families, portrait art has been integral to recording human history. Today, it's less about painting or drawing the wealthy, but capturing the personality of the individual.
Not just happy depicting the essence of others, artists such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Kahlo have all created self-portraits to reveal something about themselves. A high-brow selfie, if you will.
However, we’re now in a period where selfies are a part of everyday life. Even in a world full of selfies, portraiture stands the test of time.
