When kicking off the Gutright challenge, it is best to try and stick to the Modbiotic food list, there is one aspect of the avoid list that seems to throw users....Complex carbohydrates. We wanted to break this aspect down for more clarity and why the two go together for the 10 days. You will notice it is actually the removal of complex carbohydrates… how do these differ from simple carbs?

Simple Carbohydrate = 1-2 Sugar Molecules. Otherwise known as mono and disaccharides.

Complex Carbohydrate = 3+ Sugar Molecules bonded together. Otherwise called Oligo and Polysaccharides.

When doing the protocol, we are aiming to remove foods that tend to take longer to be broken down to glucose from their carbohydrate form, the breaking down of the more complex forms tends to occur slowly and can often lead to more fermentation in the large intestine. This is what we are aiming to avoid where possible during the 10 days. We covered the history of this method and what is incorporated in complex carbohydrate function, in our latest article. Modbiotic Friendly Choc Chai Pancakes

Ingredients:
2 eggs
1 tbs milk
1 scoop Gutright Choc Chai
1 tsp cacao powder
1 tsp coconut flour
1 scoop Vanilla Noway
¼ tsp bicarbonate soda

Method:
1. Whisk eggs and milk together, add all remaining ingredients, and combine well.
2. Heat a small amount of coconut oil in a frypan over medium heat.
3. Spoon approximately 2 tbs of mixture into the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
Top with fruit, nut butter or extra honey if desired.
