Life, as they say, is about balance and, more specifically, that cliché of work/life balance. The ‘life’ part of that cliché can also be further pared down into halves, with regular life – family (immediate and multi-generational), house stuff, and just ‘living’. The other, more exciting half is also one that is the biggest struggle: endeavouring to live an adventurous life or, at the least, try and ensure you get regular exposure to the outdoors, in any way or form.
For some of us (this writer included) the struggle to at least live a bit of the adventurous ideal entails (usually) an early morning quick hike, bike ride or some other type of exercise before the commute to work (or the school run with the kids). For others, it is, truly, their life, and in this newsletter, we’ve profiled one Aussie adventurer – Cam Bostock – who is living that dream. It’s a great profile, written by senior contributor Dean Mellor, that not only showcases the many (and we mean many) adventures Cam has experienced, but also his reflections on how his seemingly ideal life has come about. In short, it’s still a lot of work, but is also inspiring for us folks who are still trying to nail that life/adventures balancing act.
Other stories in this newsletter include a heads-up that bookings are now open for New Zealand’s 11 Great Walks, a collection of some of the most amazing multi-day walks you can enjoy in NZ, and of which we are huge fans. Also, there’s a guide to all things outdoor fun in the Tweed region of New South Wales, some great tips on how to enjoy a short escape with kids, and a long-term review of Thule’s OutPace 3 bike rack.
