Dear -,
You don’t need to be in Washington, DC, or have years of experience to make a difference through advocacy. Advocacy happens year‑round, in local communities, when people learn, show up, and engage in the policy‑making process. As part of our national advocacy network, you are an important part of this work.
That’s why I am excited to share a new opportunity for you to deepen your impact and grow as a community leader, through our new Autism Speaks Advocacy Academy.
This volunteer leadership and advocacy training program is for autistic individuals, family members, and allies who want to engage more consistently in public policy advocacy. Participants receive training, resources, and support to help them build relationships with elected officials and take action on autism‑related policy issues at the federal and state levels.
Who should consider applying?
You do not need to be a policy expert. The Advocacy Academy is designed for advocates at many stages of their journey—especially those who want to learn, share their experiences, and grow their advocacy skills alongside others.
What participants can expect:
-
Trainings that build confidence, policy knowledge and skills
- Quarterly high-impact advocacy activities
- Connection to a national network of advocates
- Support in building relationships with federal and state policymakers
