For America turning 250, we dug up our old list of 250 things we love about bathing. Turns out it's not quite 250. Then again, America's a work in progress too.
Here are some of our favorites…
Hot showers after cold swims.
Meeting new people in the sauna.
Road trips planned around rivers + road trips accidentally planned around rivers.
Getting dirty, getting clean.
The inevitable laughter during a Wim Hof Hose Off (or any polar plunge).
Swimming in the rain.
Bathing alone is good, bathing together is better ;)
Hesitating, then committing.
Pool parties!
That one friend who always knows a hot spring, and won't tell you exactly where until you get there.
Cold water (?)
A towel that's still warm from the sun.
Steam on old windows. Foggy mirrors.
Plants, flowers, music and water turning a bathroom into an oasis.
Taking a shower in warm rain.
Floating.
The Pacific reminding you who's in charge.
Bucket showers. Outdoor showers. Beach showers.
Forest bathing.
Visiting Roman baths, Finnish saunas, Japanese onsens, Turkish hammams, Korean spas, Mexican hot springs, Icelandic hot pots, California creeks…
Leaving your comfort zone and then finding your new comfort zone.
Big Sur after the fog burns off.
Saying, "should we jump in?" your friend replying, "it's freezing." Then you both jumping.
Getting clean is only half the point. The other half is remembering you're alive (hope you didn’t forget!)
We could all stand to get a little dirtier, and a little cleaner, maybe America will be a bit better for it.
This list is missing a few. We'll think of them next time we're in the shower.
Go have some fun!
And if you need bathing supplies, soap or a towel while you're at it, we got you.
