Britain’s most prestigious flower show - the RHS Chelsea Flower Show - ended this weekend after welcoming thousands of visitors and… gnomes. The show lifted its ban on the garden figurines for only the second time in 100 years - see some of the best ones here. Other highlights included new rose varieties being unveiled - including one named after footballing legend Sir David Beckham. It is said to have subtle notes of banana, honey, nougat, clove and myrrh - how it compares to its namesake, however, remains a matter of speculation.

Bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase “stag party”, newly-released photographs show red deer stags wandering into a remote Highland youth hostel. The images, from the 1980s, have been released as part of Hostelling Scotland’s 95th anniversary celebrations. Some of the lads were given nicknames including Windswept, The Chief and Old Fettercairn.
