Meet AUX: Attractive Utensil Experts

AUX makes all of their tongs in the town of Tsubame Sanjo, renowned as the metalworking capital of Japan. Each of their tongs is made from a single piece of stainless steel, making for lifelong strength, ease of cleaning, and total elegance.

The flat metal is cut to shape, then pressed to form a concave surface on the inside of both tips of the tongs. This allows for a gentle but sure grip, and lets the user easily employ the tongs as a serving spoon, sauce ladle, et cetera.

In order to create the perfect spring tension for ease of use and durability, they actually go to the trouble of thinning the metal where the bend is to be formed. Then, the coolest part.

AUX uses a one-of-a-kind machine to form the bend that informs the spring and alignment. It creates a patented spring tension, both vertically and horizontally, which remain equally strong through years of repeated use.

Toriwake: The Gateway Tongs

The compact toriwake, or “fingertip” tongs is the result of dozens of decisions made right.

The inspiration for its design came about from one employee’s desire to cut down on the number of times she had to wash her hands while cooking—and how wet the kitchen towel got in the process.

The tips of these compact tongs mimic the alignment of your own thumb and index finger. They truly feel like an extension of your own hand, and they work incredibly well for tasks delicate and heavy alike.

A few of our favorite places to reach for (and with) these tongs: peeling skins off hot vegetables, breading meats, moving cut garlic from the board to the pan, and even pulling pinbones out of fish.

The toriwake tongs, as with all the AUX tongs we sell, are angled and balanced to let you keep the tips pointed up and off the table or countertop when not in use. Sometimes it’s the little things, you know?
