Two Iconic Musicians Are Rumored to Perform at Taylor Swift’s MSG WeddingWill the concession stands be open though?
We are less than one week away from Taylor Swift getting married…allegedly. While a grand total of zero details about the pop star’s nuptials have been officially revealed, everyone from TMZ to The New York Times has been investigating claims that Swift will wed Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden on July 3. Permits filed with the city point to some kind of large, semi-mysterious event being held at MSG over the 4th of July weekend, and other Chiefs have supposedly booked rooms at a Times Square hotel just blocks away. The reported venue choice, however, has left fans scratching their heads. Even with 1,000 guests, MSG would still be almost empty, and the space is a bit cavernous and non-matrimonial. Some fans have latched onto a theory that the MSG location is simply a decoy created by Swift’s legendary publicist Tree Paine, while others believe Swift has rented out MSG for a massive fan-filled wedding watch party. Of course, in many ways, MSG, despite being an unconventional choice for a wedding, makes complete sense as a venue for Swift. When it comes to security, there’s no better choice. The basketball/hockey arena is accustomed to high-profile guests entering and exiting through an underground entrance away from paparazzi eyes, and once guests are inside, security will make sure no one else gets in. On a more sentimental note, MSG is perhaps the nation’s most iconic concert venue, so if Swift wants to get married somewhere that played a major role in her career, this would be it. (Although as an interesting sidebar, Swift hasn’t performed a full concert at MSG since the Speak Now World Tour in 2011, because she’s upgraded to the stadium tour circuit.) One way or another, we’re likely to know a lot more details by this time next week (so stay tuned for next Monday’s TS wedding recap edition of Pop Off), but while we wait to learn if Taylor Swift will or will not get married on the same block as the Penn Station Raising Cane’s, let’s take a look at what actually happened this weekend: Updates On My Close Personal Friends — Ariana Grande is hanging out with her exNo, Ariana and Pete Davidson are not chatting again, but Ariana has remained friends with Ricky Alvarez, the backup dancer she dated in 2015 and 2016. He’s the Ricky from the “Thank U, Next” line, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh.” Ari and Ricky reportedly got lunch together in Austin, where she was performing as a part of her Eternal Sunshine Tour. At the concert on Friday, which Alvarez attended, Ariana changed the “Thank U, Next” line to, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / I know he’s still got my back.” It remains unclear if Grande and Alvarez are rekindling their romance a decade later or if they’re just friends. Since the pair split, Grande has been linked to Mac Miller, Davidson, Dalton Gomez, and most recently, her Wicked co-star Ethan Slater, but Ariana is now single again (although maybe not for long). The Couch Report — House of the Dragon is killing everyone [SPOILER ALERT]After a fairly snoozy Season 2 finale last year, House of the Dragon is really heating up, killing off main characters in back-to-back episodes to start Season 3. Things are heating up in the dragon-fueled war between the Blacks, helmed by Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), and the Greens, led by Rhaenyra’s childhood bestie, Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke). HBO has announced that Season 4 will be the show’s final set of episodes, and so the writers certainly aren’t shying away from deaths this season. The House of the Dragon Season 3 premiere saw Rhaenyra’s son Jace (Harry Collett) killed in battle by a bow-and-arrow, while this week’s episode included Rhaenyra’s revenge, the beheading of Alicent’s father Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans). Both characters have been staples of the show since Season 1, so their deaths will leave holes in the cast. If the show continues to follow George R. R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, however, there will be plenty more holes burned into the cast before this season is over. Be So For Real — Keke Palmer should be hosting every awards showLast night’s BET Awards, which saw Teyana Taylor, Kehlani, Kendrick Lamar, and Olivia Dean all take home prizes, were hosted by Druski. The 31-year-old comedian and influencer was doing a lovely job as host, before internet darling Keke Palmer snatched the microphone out of his hand during one of the show’s bits. “This should’ve been my gig,” she said to Druski, earning cheers from the audience. “This is the problem with BET. They be tripping, because this should’ve been me,” she continued before introducing a Cardi B performance. While I don’t begrudge giving anyone work in this economy, Keke did raise a fair point: why is she not hosting every single awards show? Give me Keke Palmer, Oscar host. Give me Keke Palmer, American Idol host. Hell, I’d watch Keke Palmer, Westminster Dog Show host. The woman has charisma. Current Hyperfixation — Stevie Nicks, wedding singerOkay, back to Taylor Swift’s wedding one more time (I’M SORRY! I can’t help myself!). Another rumor going around is that Fleetwood Mac member and music icon Stevie Nicks will be performing at Taylor Swift’s MSG wedding. Nicks and Swift have been friends for years, with Nicks serving as a sort of mentor for the pop star. The pair have performed together over the years, and Swift recently wore a “Stevie Knicks” t-shirt to one of the NBA Finals games. According to reports, Swift will also have a performance by Tim McGraw at the festivities, paying homage to Swift’s 2006 debut single. Will McGraw and Nicks perform together? Separately? What will they sing? Are other artists lined up to perform? I NEED TO KNOW. Leave it to Taylor Swift to upstage America’s 250th birthday with her wedding. |
