Why Everyone Thinks Taylor Swift Could Finally Land an OscarNow let’s get Taylor in a Broadway revival of Glass Menagerie, so she can win that Tony.
While Awards Season technically ended back in March with the Oscars, it’s always Awards Season for those with the eyes to see it. This week, Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers passed out their unhinged Las Culturistas Culture Awards (or the Cultches if you’re in the know), the NBA passed out their Best Ensemble prize (also known as a championship trophy), and one pop star/cat-lover launched her campaign for a 2027 Oscar. Meanwhile, I am giving myself an award for most time liking tweets about the New York Knicks. If you’ve been on the campaign trail for Employee of the Month and haven’t had time to stalk country music stars on Instagram, never fear, because I’m campaigning for Employee of the Month by stalking country music stars on Instagram. Here’s a rundown of everything you missed this week. #Knicksin5 Updates On My Close Personal Friends — Jelly Roll announced his divorce from Bunnie XO with an Instagram bio editOf the many odd habits and traditions that social media has introduced into our lives, there are few as dystopian (and wildly entertaining) as the IG breakup announcement. Will the splitting couple post a Notes app collab photo claiming they’ll remain friends? Will the ex-girlfriend magically disappear from all grid photos? Will your friend start flooding their stories with cryptic quotes paired with sad Taylor Swift songs? There’s no dignified way to break up on social media, whether you’re a celeb or a normie. Earlier this week, country music superstar Jelly Roll proved this as he seemingly confirmed his divorce from wife Bunnie XO by chopping the lock-and-key emoji, followed by her Instagram handle, from his IG bio. The social media makeover came after news of Jelly Roll’s divorce filings became public. The pair had been married for nearly a decade before filing on May 18 in Tennessee. Bunnie’s response was a story of her and her friends eating hot dogs. The Couch Report — Congratulations to Ciara Miller, Lisa Kudrow, and Factories During WWII for winning Las Culturistas Culture AwardsSure, the Grammy Awards just announced some new categories, but who really cares about winning Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance when you could take home The All Good Either Way Award for Bisexuality in Media at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards? (The winner was Hannah Einbinder btw). Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers returned to Bravo for the second year in a row to host their extremely chaotic awards show last night, and it’s now streaming on Peacock. What started as an annual tradition on their podcast, Las Culturistas, was given the red-carpet treatment in 2025. This year’s festivities included Lisa Rinna modeling all five Outfit of the Year nominees, Rachel Zegler performing Addison Rae’s “Fame Is a Gun,” and the Most Girls Award going to Factories During WWII. Oh, and Pikachu won the 30 Under 30 Award, which did make me feel oddly young. Be So For Real — Taylor Swift will be an Oscar nominee this yearIt’s a well-established fact that Taylor Swift loves awards. In 2015, she admitted to crying when Red lost the Album of the Year Grammy, and in 2022 she campaigned for her “All Too Well” music video for the Best Narrative Short Film Oscar, but ultimately wasn’t nominated. This year, Swift, who already has an Emmy and 18 Grammys, will be back on her EGOT quest thanks to her Toy Story 5 song “I Knew It, I Knew You.” And if history is any indication, Swift will be adding “Oscar nominee” to her CV come 2027. The songs from all four previous Toy Story films were nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars, with Toy Story 3’s “We Belong Together” taking home the trophy. An Oscar nomination (or win) would complete a side quest that Taylor has been trying to accomplish since she penned “Crazier” for Hannah Montana: The Movie. She also wrote songs for Valentine’s Day, The Hunger Games, Fifty Shades Darker, Miss Americana, Where the Crawdads Sing, and, of course, Cats. IMHO Taylor should have won an Oscar (and probably a Las Culturistas Culture Award) for her work getting hit by a car in Amsterdam as well. Current Hyperfixation — New York Knicks (even though I don’t watch basketball)The New York Knicks won the 2026 NBA Championship this Saturday, kicking off a whole night of partying in the Big Apple, an ecstatic fervor on social media, and the burning of one school bus in Times Square. Do I know the name of a single cast member of the Knicks? No. Do I know how many touchdowns they scored in the finals? Also no. But did I buy a Knicks t-shirt from a man on Houston Street selling them for $20? Yes, I did. Not since the early days of Pokémon Go! has there been such communal energy on the streets. With the never-ending barrage of content pelted at society, these monoculture moments become fewer and fewer. When something as major as the Knicks winning a championship for the first time since 1973 comes along, you’ve got to jump on board, whether you know what double dribbling is or not. Am I a dedicated Knicks fan like Spike Lee, Timothée Chalamet, or Tracy Morgan? No. Am I a dedicated fan of New York City and immaculate vibes? Yes. Stay tuned for today’s parade, because I will be sharing 800 Instagram posts about it to my stories. |
