Connecting through a Ring camera
Is this your brand on Milled? Claim it.
A few years ago, a student named Yovanka introduced Beto on stage at Texas A&M. On Saturday, I "ran into" her again...but this time through a Ring camera.
With campus traffic slowing down for the summer semester, Powered by People is launching brand-new pilots to meet voters exactly where they are. This weekend, that meant going door-to-door at an apartment complex in Houston.
I knocked on the door of an apartment, and a second later, Yovanka answered through her doorbell speaker.
We ended up doing a full voter registration check right there on the porch. We quickly realized she hadn't updated her address since moving to Houston from College Station, so I left a mail-in form on her windowsill and grabbed her cell number to make sure she gets successfully registered in Harris County.
It was only after we sorted all of that out that she asked who I was with. When I told her Powered by People, she completely lit up and told me the story about introducing Beto at the Rudder Auditorium. Even though we were talking through a tiny speaker, the connection was instant—and she's already excited to volunteer with us here in Houston.
You can actually watch the video of our Ring camera interaction right here!
That interaction is exactly why we do this work. We believe in the power of real connections—even through a doorbell. It’s the first step in building trust, fixing registration barriers, and ensuring people turn out to vote when it matters most.
Thank you for making moments like this possible:
More soon,
Aimee Prudhomme
