Tonight, I'm writing to you about our future Lieutenant Governor, my friend Vikki Goodwin.
Not everyone knows this, but the Lieutenant Governor is the most powerful political position in Texas politics. They co-write our multi-billion dollar state budget and set the legislative agenda in the Texas Senate. They decide committee appointments and control what bills get passed into law.
Dan Patrick has used that power to do favors for his donors at your expense.
One example? He took a $3 million bribe from a pro-Paxton PAC, then presided over Ken Paxton's impeachment trial. Paxton walked free.
There's no clearer example of corruption.
Patrick has used the Lieutenant Governor's office to gut public school funding and force fellow Republicans to vote for the school vouchers against the will of their own voters. He voted twice for the tax incentives program that brought hundreds of data centers to Texas to use up your drinking water and is still taking campaign contributions from the industry.
And most recently, he’s refusing to face Vikki in a debate — but he dropped his first attack ad against her last week.
A decade of Dan Patrick’s leadership has given us civil rights rollbacks, skyrocketing cost of living, and a Senate that does favors for the wealthy instead of working for We the People.
Enter Vikki Goodwin:
She's a four-term state representative from Central Texas, a small business owner, and someone who has fought vouchers every single session. She authored Cati's Act. She's led on water. And unlike Dan Patrick, she can't be bought.
She flipped her seat in 2018 by out-organizing the incumbent Republican, and has made her district deep blue by listening to and delivering for her constituents.
