How we beat Ken Paxton

If you want to end this MAGA nightmare… if you want James Talarico to be the next senator from the state of Texas… if you want to take it to Ken Paxton… this one is for you.
You probably remember that Paxton came after me and Powered by People in the middle of the Texas gerrymandering fight last year.
He sued us not because we’d broken any law, but because he hoped that bringing the full weight of the Attorney General’s office against us would cause us to throw in the towel. He was rightfully worried that our grassroots organizing, voter registration programs and our willingness to fight to the last breath against this attempted authoritarian takeover of our government would cause him problems in his race for Senate.
Maybe, he thought, he could tie us up in courts, force us to rack up unaffordable legal bills, and sideline one of the most innovative voter turnout programs in the country.
It’s what he’s tried to do to other groups across the state. Annunciation House. FIEL Houston. Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley. Jolt Initiative.
He even sued the Democratic donation processing firm ActBlue.
Not because anyone has broken the law. But because he sees them as political opponents.
Here’s the good news. Like us, many of these groups are fighting back. And like us, many of them are winning. ActBlue just won a major decision in federal court last week.
That shows that standing up to a thug like Paxton, fighting back and fighting to win, works. So let’s keep it up. Because, while we’ve won at the district court and appeals court levels, he is not letting up, hoping to wear us down and stop us from organizing.
It hasn't been easy -- we’ve spent more than $500,000 in legal fees fighting him so far -- but it's been possible thanks to contributions from people like you.
Thank you,
Beto
