If you move in Texas — across the street, across town — you have to manually re-register to vote. Every single time.

To fight back against this voter suppression, we've identified 440,000 Texans who have recently moved and are likely Democratic voters — who may not know they need to re-register.

Our partners mailed voter registration forms to 150,000 Texans who have recently moved — 50,000 from out of state, 100,000 from within Texas.

But we know that sending a single mailer isn't enough. So Powered by People is running the chase, meaning we’ll connect with every single one of these Texans.

We’re a few days into our voter chase program for these Texans and we wanted to pull back the curtain and give you a behind the scenes look at where we’re at:

The Numbers:
We are just at the beginning of our outreach to the Texans who have recently moved, and these first few days are all about laying the foundation for the massive chase program to come. Here is a look at the early data from our initial outreach waves:

• Wave 1 Texts (June 4): Sent to ~112k voters to kick off the program. Over 1,100 engaged back, and 115 asked to have a dedicated voter buddy stay in touch with them (powered by an initial group of 12 volunteers)
• Wave 1 Calls (June 9): Dialed ~3,500 voters in just one hour with a dedicated team of 22 staff members, adding 20 more to our voter database. Note: We have volunteer phone banks scheduled this weekend to significantly expand this reach and close the gap.
• Wave 2 Texts (June 10): Followed up with ~107k voters who hadn’t replied to us yet. So far, ~1,000 have engaged back, and 120 were added to our organizing database for us to keep in contact with (with 25 volunteers).

Key Takeaway:
Once a live text conversation is established, voter willingness to stay in touch with us for ongoing follow-up is consistent. Every conversation started represents a voter who won’t be left behind as we scale up our operations in the weeks ahead.
