Powered by People exists to help Democrats win big elections in Texas. And there is no bigger election this year than the one for U.S. Senate.
If James Talarico is going to be the first Democrat to win here since Lloyd Bentsen did in 1988; if he’s going to be the 51st vote in the Senate to fight corruption, bring down prices and stop Trump from destroying this country; if his victory will help us win other big races for Governor, Congress and the State House… then we’ve got to pull out all the stops.
That’s why, in addition to our successful statewide voter registration and voter turnout program on college campuses, we are now adding more innovative and yes, expensive, programs that give our volunteers new opportunities to connect with Texans who otherwise might not vote.
We have just partnered on a program that is mailing voter registration forms to hundreds of thousands of likely Democrats who have moved and have not yet updated their voter registration. This coming week, our volunteers will be calling more than 130,000 of them to assist them in the process, to make sure they are able to legally vote at their new address and then offer to personally stay in touch with them to answer any follow up questions.
And — importantly! — our volunteers will stay in touch with them to ensure that they have the necessary reminders to cast their ballot and won’t stop reaching out until we’ve confirmed that they have voted.
I lost to Ted Cruz by a little more than 215,000 votes in 2018.
What if we’d had a program like this one back then? Imagine the hundreds of thousands of voters we could have reached and brought into that critical election.
Well, we have the chance to do it now.
So let’s make the most of it. This program will cost $66,000 to cover the texts, calls, and contact data needed to reach all of these Texans.
