This was never just volunteering to me. It was healing.

I started registering voters with City Girls Who Walk Houston back in summer 2024.

What began as me being their on-demand voter registrar turned into me actually becoming a City Girl myself (and making friendships I never would’ve had otherwise).

What most people don’t know is that when I first found this group, I was mourning the sudden loss of my mom.
So this was never just volunteering to me. It was healing. This community of supportive, inclusive, women showed up for me when I needed it most, and building these connections helped bring me back.

Fast forward to today: I have close to 100 City Girls in my Powered by People network, and I individually follow up with every single one of them for every election.
These are some of the real text conversations I’ve had with them during voting season.

That genuine, human interaction is what actually makes a difference.
That’s the work we do at Powered by People (and the work that works!). We build real relationships, meet people where they’re at, and show up for our communities.
I’m so proud to be both Executive Director and a volunteer with Powered by People. We have hundreds of volunteers who are doing the same work of personally staying in contact with thousands of Texans across the state to ensure they have everything they need to cast their ballot.
But here’s the catch: organizing to build meaningful relationships costs more than impersonal outreach. Powered by People rejects corporate PAC donations, we rely on people like you donating what they can to make our organizing possible.
Thank you,
Aimee Prudhomme
