This weekend the Powered by People team worked three different events in Houston.
Our volunteers showed up to help voters at James Talarico’s rally in southwest Houston, Harris County Judge nominee Leticia Plummer’s campaign relaunch, and a community protest for Lorenzo Salgado, a Houston resident killed by ICE earlier this month.
At every stop, our approach was the same: meet people where they are, and make sure they're ready to vote.
We are turning energy and emotion – excitement for candidates, anger at injustice – into action that will produce change. We did our best to meet everyone at each event, confirming registrations, updating voter data for those who’d moved, and registering brand new first time voters.
By the end of the day our 57 Powered by People volunteers had added 325 new voters to our relational organizing network, a mix of new and updated registrants.
Each voter added is the result of a personal conversation held face-to-face, in the physical, real world. And our volunteers personally stay in touch with each of these voters all the way through Election Day, answering their questions, following up around key deadlines, and encouraging them to vote until we can confirm they’ve cast their ballot.
Winning in November starts with work like this. In order to keep reaching voters across Texas, we rely on grassroots supporters like you to power this program.
