I don’t think we could ask for a better turn of events.
Trump just announced his endorsement of Ken Paxton in the Republican U.S. Senate primary runoff in Texas.
This makes it almost certain that Paxton will emerge as the nominee on runoff election night, one week from today.
I don’t think we could ask for a better turn of events. Paxton, twice indicted, impeached by members of his own party, has limited appeal outside of the MAGA base. And with Trump’s endorsement, there is no way he can escape his ties to the most unpopular president in modern American history.
This is the moment to press our advantage. James Talarico is once-in-a-generation candidate, able to excite Democrats, appeal to Independents, and has more than a few rational Republicans willing to cross the partisan divide to vote for sanity. We need to make sure he has the resources to define Ken Paxton as a danger to Texas and the country as well as the resources to keep Paxton from successfully defining him.
We also need to make sure that we continue to reach, register and turnout the young voters who might very well be the margin of victory in this critical election.
