The stage name of Anthony Edward Brett - who lived in Norwood, London - he was the star of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes silent series, which ran for 45 episodes.
Three stories, produced between 1921 and 1923, have been restored by the BFI, each with a newly-commissioned score.
