Day Night — and gaining
The dark is winning now.
The equinox passed on Tuesday. From here to March, there's more night than day.

It's a small thing on paper. A minute or two a day.

But it adds up fast, and by the end of October the woods are dark by six — and everything out there that prefers not to be seen gets three extra hours to work with.

 
There's a reason our archive leans heavy toward fall.
 

More people in the treeline: hunters, hikers squeezing in one last weekend. Fewer hours of light to see by. Dawn and dusk stretched long, which is exactly when most reports come in. Add cold air that carries sound farther than it has any right to, and you get the season where the network gets busy.
